Bio
My name is Rey Carmier and here is a bit more of my background and how I got started.
I am originally a graduated audio engineer by trade. Growing up an avid gamer, I went to school to learn how to record sounds and music for my own videogames I'm working on.
One of my projects ended up being an acoustic studio panel for my home studio at the time. It wasn't fancy, just a frame of wood with some canvas stretched over it, stapled together.
I was hooked, I decided then and there I would continue to work with my hands. From there, I found myself going down a rabbit hole of learning all about Japanese woodworking, mostly because I was so enamored by the construction techniques and how they did not use any nails or glue.
After that, I eventually came across spoon carving and green wood working, which is working with freshly cut wood to make spoons and other spoon-like things. I hit the jackpot here I thought.
My spoons and knives are now in 5 countries and 3 continents! I first started with spoons just to make holiday gifts for friends and family. Who would've guessed they'd make it that far? All the way to Ireland and Australia!
This all began about 9 years ago, during 2024, I ended up deciding to fully learn more about knife sharpening and how to best take care of my own tools.
My main goals are to show people the beauty of handmade items and that wood is precious. Today more than ever, people need more handmade items in their homes, it makes a difference to feel the love and care someone puts into crafting something, rather than buy a mass-produced item.
